Performance Appraisal Tip 2 – Know your ratings

Often, appraisal systems involve scoring or rating employee performance. The best rating scales differentiate good and bad performers, discriminate strengths and weaknesses, are simple to use, include descriptive statements of positive and negative behaviours that help both those making the ratings and those being rated to understand what they are looking for and what is required. They should also be perceived as fair.
